What appeals you the most to change your current behaviour, adopt a new behaviour, and possibly sign up for a new free service? 

- attractiveness of landing page?
- perceived usefulness of product? 
- perceived simplicity?
- ease of signing up?
- integration and compatible with existing options?
- back out option? 
- cost of using product?
- network or friends already using the product?
- peer pressures?
- first mover?
- etc...

Why then would the founding team spend the limited resources on building a product to achieve the greatest return on investment? for example, for our product, iWish.
